About this event

Floorwork Arts Collective presents a staged reading of world premier play, Tessellate Life (or, 'the family member') by Sarah Powers, directed by Mara Einson. Floorwork invites you to a night of sibling rivalry, body modification, and existential anxiety. Tessellate Life is a 90 minute living room comedy turned introspection on grief, duty, and legacy.

"Mom is astral projecting in the living room, Ella has the worlds largest collection of snow pants, and Grandpa is more alive than well, ever before, and they all know a secret Jack doesn't. In fact, they have all dedicated the past few months, while Jack was away working a high-powered finance job (or, rather, escaping himself? this house?), to a science project that will surely leave a lasting familial legacy across the globe. In this race-against-time, dark comedy, a family grapples with grief, legacy, and the fabric of the universe."

Floorwork Arts Collective is a Brooklyn-based independent theatre company creating multimedia work "from the ground up" that speaks to contemporary social issues. By imbedding the values of our art into our creative practice, we empower emerging interdisciplinary artists to praxis their ideas while creating with, educating, and entertaining audiences in experimental productions. Our goal is to create experimental theatre in community that deconstructs hierarchies and promotes ecological sustainability.
