Welcome to dance-a-luma, a women-only, substance-free monthly dance gathering in Petaluma, California — to uplift and celebrate the power of Woman. Our theme for October is DYING, a tribute to the gift of being alive, because when we don't fully acknowledge that we could die any moment, we don't come fully alive. It is said that we experience a thousand deaths before the final death of our body, and so --
What wants to die in your life now? A relationship? A bad habit? A perspective based in self-loathing? A job you are dying to quit? We will explore this through our dancing.
Join us for an energizing journey 🪩 with a range of musical genres. We invite you to wear something you love, in 'death-honoring' shades of autumn or black, in the spirit of our theme, DYING.
7:00 Doors open, please plan to arrive as close to 7 as possible
7:00-7:15 Say hello, chat-connection time
7:15 Opening Circle led by Jessica Rios
7:30-8:30 Dancing, movement, being in our bodies
8:30 Closing circle
8:45 Goodbyes, time to talk with other attendees
9:00 Doors close
You are free to move as YOUR body wants to; this isn't a performance or a choreographed event. Leap around, swirl, squat, sway or even simply sit and take in the music in a quieter way. The music will start mellow for stretching and warming up your body, then it'll peak for a while and finally, we'll simmer down again.
Dance is medicine! There is no better way to love yourself in these times of global anxiety and despair, than to dance.
Scientifically proven to be the strongest antidepressant, dance has countless benefits for your mental and physical health. Our host, Jessica Rios, was born on the day the UN declared International Women's Day, March 8th 1975, and is passionate about empowering women through online and in-person wellness events. Jessica says,
"Life needs women to RISE — and dance lights up our rising!" 🎵
This is a substance-free event. Women (she/her) of all ages are welcome. No children. BYO water bottle.
