Welcome back, Dem Deya Sound System is glad to present another night of sound system music. All the way from across the pond we have the pleasure to host pillars of the foundation of the culture in which we love today. March 25th It is an honor to present 4 different sound system crews amongst 3 different sound systems in one space .
O.B.F (Original Bass Foundation)(FR) The Original Bass Foundation is a French dub and reggae sound system based on the outskirts of Geneva. The crew, made up of producer & selector Rico, operator G and manager Stef promote forward thinking dub music.
Heavily influenced by Jamaican reggae, 90s UK dub and contemporary urban music, O.B.F’s sound is distinctive and versatile. They started off as an underground sound system playing at Genevan squat parties. The unique sound of Rico’s productions rapidly gained hype within the dub community and in 2006 O.B.F started putting on their own nights at "Le Zoo" L’Usine, Geneva’s biggest club. Since then, their notorious "Dubquake" nights have become a true institution in the European night scene. The interest around the sound system has grown exponentially ever since.
In 2014, O.B.F launched their own imprint "Dubquake Records", an independent record label focused on promoting future dub and reggae. Now with over fifty releases including O.B.F's two stand out albums Wild (2014) & SIGNZ (2020), the label has widened its horizons, producing and distributing documentary films.
IRATION STEPPAS (UK) Leeds institution, active for over 20 years as a sound system and production unit composed of Mark Iration and Denis Rootical. The pair first met in 1993 at a time when sound system culture and music in the UK was changing, from the militant vibrations of Jah Shaka towards a broader future that would encompass not only the roots of the music but also new interpretations. Iration’s own production style was nicknamed “Year 3000 Dub” in reference to its ability to straddle both the past and the future. As for the Iration Steppas system itself, it remains one of the UK’s best loved, a wall of sound that continues to bring to life generation after generation of British dub and bass pioneers.
EL GRAN LATIDO SOUND(CO)
Roots & Culture Sound System from Bogotá, Colombia. Active since 2017, They have been representing the movement of sound system culture in the form of live events & amplifying the voice of the people in protest in the streets of the city.
HEADWAY HIFI(US) BIO
As one of the newer sound systems to be holding it down stateside for Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Started by Jonah Holter (Spunback) he has been able to establish his own local event series in the area hosting the top of the top when it comes to artists within sound system culture. We are ecstatic to bring his sound system featuring 4 double 18in paraflex designed subs.
BUKKHA(SP)
Musical veteran with a career spanning more than a decade, it's safe to say Bukkha runs things when it comes
to fuelling sound systems. His 'In Roots Vol. 1' debut LP features seven talented guest artists from around the
globe, the extended Dub family in full force and effect connected to Bukkha through previous projects, shared
tours and overall engagement in the scene.
BLEAK WINTER (US) BIO
Ran by Korin Complex, Bleak Winter Records is a label pushing the lines of dubstep, breakbeat, and contemporary bass music. Having artists like Inyonka, ARTroniks, Deadroom, Gabe Young, and Nixsin, The labels peculiar taste for sound will be a treat to add to a night celebrating global underground music.
ZION SOULJAHZ SOUND SYSTEM
A Sound System from Northern Colorado, adding their sound in support of the movement. A system that has been providing heavy roots & bass in the CO area since 2011, we are honored to have them join us in providing for such a special occasion.
This session will be hosted by The Aztlan theatre, located on Santa Fe. Doors are at **7:00**
