There’s Something About (the virgin) Mary by KY WHY + WET WIG PRODUCTIONS
Four gleeful heathens reimagine the immaculate conception as queer fan-fiction. Follow Mary on a hell-cruising journey of sexual awakening, divine absurdity, and unapologetic camp. Founded in 2022 by Reba Mitchell, Ly Barber, and Ky, Wet Wig brings musical maximalism, visual excess, and “biblically accurate yet historically slutty’’ theater to the stage.
Inspired by the unfinished poem Christabel by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Hymen Opus is a psychedelic vampire fantasia dripping with sapphic yearning and orchid mantises. Drawn from my own sexual awakening experiences, the piece transforms instincts once quieted by southern religious repression into a mythic, erotic world. Layered with hypnotic desire and ritualistic tension, Hymen Opus pulses with orgasmic energy. It's a blend of cabaret, séance, and insectoid spectacular. Hymen Opus tells the story of Christabel’s encounter with Geraldine in the woods. There she finds an ethereal beauty. She is hurt and alone, yet radiating with a hypnotic allure. The attraction is immediate. Soon, Christabel leaves behind the world she knew to follow Geraldine into the dark. Their bond quickly and intensely deepens, and before long, Christabel’s innocence and identity are forever changed.
